This November, we’re screening 9 to 5 (1980), starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin! As usual, we’ll be doing a lively discussion afterwards about the political themes of the film.
Three office workers are fed up with their sexist boss, who takes credit for their work and makes their lives miserable. When they decide to turn the tables on him, things quickly spiral into a plan to take control of the workplace themselves.
Part workplace comedy, part revenge fantasy, 9 to 5 gives us plenty to talk about: sexism at work, the power bosses hold over workers, and what it means to fight back together. What changes when the people doing the work get to decide how it’s organized?
The screening will happen at the Multi-Purpose Theater, Room D1375 @ Emily Carr University, 520 E 1st Ave, on Sunday, November 8! Doors open at 1 PM and the film starts at 1:30 PM. Admission by donation. Message us if you have any questions :)
